INDONESIAN TOBACCO ADS

Indonesian tobacco ads, targeting young
A lot of my smoker friends don't care, or even stay away from our blog.
I am totally sympathetic to that, I was exactly the same.
I was even mad at my girlfriend when she told me to quit smoking over and over.
If you are an adult, you don't need to quit smoking.
But, if you love cigarettes so much (I still do), you need to know what smoking cigarettes does.

In Indonesia, 67% of males over 15 years old smoke, and 35% (second to Russia) of the total Indonesian population smokes.
10% of their total tax revenue comes from the tobacco industry (about 6 billion US dollars a year), however it is estimated that the future medical expenditure related to tobacco diseases will exceed the tobacco tax revenue.
Indonesia mostly consistes of muslim people, however rapid economic growth in Indonesia fosters the young generation's smoking.
Their regulation for tobacco products availability to the young is so dull too.  Indonesian kids can buy just one cigarette (not a pack), even at a kiosk next to their middle school, without any identification and for a cheap price.

So, the American tobacco company is totally targeting Indonesian young kids (unofficially, estimated over age 14).
They have an effective marketing strategy to have ads related American pop stars, like Flo Rida, Katy Perry or Kelly Clarkson, to attract Indonesian kids.
Where are their ethics?

Ardi Rizal, at age 2, smoked 40 cigarettes a day

A lot of people still remember a shocking video on Youtube, a 2 year old heavy smoker in Indonesia (Ardi Rizal).

Now, Ardi Rizal totally tobacco free at age 4
Now Ardi Rizal is 4 years old, and totally quit smoking with the Indonesian's governments help and rehab.

The issue of smoking cigarettes is not just about you, but it's about our society and our future generation.
It's your choice to smoke, but ask yourself if you are being ethical in our society and are proud of being a smoker if front of our next generation.
